After losing my mum, going through a traumatic birth, and almost losing my son, I struggled with postnatal depression. I tried to keep going by throwing myself into work, but on the second anniversary of Mum’s passing, it all caught up with me. I felt completely overwhelmed and knew I needed help.
My GP referred me to RCS and the In-Work Support Service, and I contacted them straight away. Within a week, I had my first counselling session. I’d never had therapy before and felt anxious, but as soon as I met my counsellor, I felt at ease. I ended up talking for the whole hour — everything just poured out. Over six sessions, I realised how much I’d been holding onto and was able to let go of so much pain and unanswered grief.
Alongside counselling, I also had regular catch-ups with my Case Coordinator, Jess. From our first call, I felt safe and understood. It was a relief to talk to someone who listened and offered gentle advice when I needed it most.
The support I received has completely changed my life. I’m calmer, lighter, and in a better place than I’ve been in years. My anxiety is easier to manage, and I finally feel at peace.
I recommend RCS and the In-Work Support Service to everyone — it was truly life-changing, and I’ll always be grateful for the help I received.
