After graduating from Liverpool University, Chrissie began her first role as a vet in a busy practice in Ruthin. Although she expected the job to be challenging, she was surprised by the waves of anxiety she experienced from her very first day. Outwardly, she appeared confident and capable, but inside her doubts grew, gradually eroding her resilience.
When Chrissie’s GP recommended the RCS In Work Support Service, she reached out and was immediately impressed by the professional and supportive process. She was matched with a therapist and received six free counselling sessions, which proved to be exactly what she needed.
Through counselling, Chrissie gained a clear understanding of her anxiety and learned practical strategies to manage it. The difference in her working life was transformative. She explains that she would never have given up being a vet, but without support she knows she would have become an unhappy one.
I am the same person I was before, but I can now take a step back from a situation and deal with it non-reactively. When it comes to my job, I really enjoy the challenges that used to freak me out and I now have a career as a vet that excites me rather than stresses me, which is fantastic.
When she and her partner married, they asked for donations to RCS instead of gifts, hoping to help more people access the support that made such a difference in her own life.
