A few years ago, Mandy could barely run and was struggling with hip and knee pain that affected both her physical and mental health. At the time, she was working for the Royal British Legion and wanted to train for a marathon, but the pain was holding her back and even made driving difficult. A friend suggested she contact RCS, so she decided to give them a call.

Mandy was referred to the In Work Support Service and met with Steve, her case coordinator. He listened carefully to what she needed and offered her a choice of physiotherapists. She chose a sports physio in Conwy and began six free sessions, along with follow-on self-help techniques.

The treatment made a huge difference. With the exercises and advice she received, Mandy was finally able to start training, and she went on to complete the London Marathon — slowly, but proudly. She raised £7,000 for the Royal British Legion, something she says would never have been possible without the support and physiotherapy she received.

The service was fast, supportive, and completely free. From the admin team to the therapist, everyone helped put her at ease. For Mandy, the hardest part was picking up the phone — after that, everything felt manageable.

Not only has my physical health improved, and I have also lost 3 stone in weight, and my mental health has improved immensely. I have found my ‘happy’ place. Calling RCS that day, set me on this path, which really has, changed my life!
