RCS is delighted to have received an award through Welsh Government’s Equalities and Inclusion grant fund for a new bi-lingual recruitment website that aims to transform the employment landscape for people with disabilities and additional needs.
The website will provide an accessible platform where people who are disabled can find meaningful, accessible job opportunities in suitable work environments, and where employers can recruit diverse talent and tap into available support.
Disabled people in the UK are more than twice as likely as non-disabled people to be unemployed and three times as likely to be economically inactive. Job-search is a major challenge for disabled applicants, who make 60% more job applications than non-disabled people – yet only half of disabled applicants get an interview, compared with two thirds of non-disabled applicants. Wales currently has the biggest disability employment gap in the UK, with a 31%-point difference between disabled and non-disabled people.
The site will encourage employers to open up their vacancies in a dedicated, inclusive on-line space, and will signpost to training and resources to help businesses create accommodating work environments.
We look forward to working with disabled people and employers to design and roll out the site, which will initially have a North Wales focus.
