Promoting Wellbeing in the Workplace

Antur Waunfawr is a North Wales-based social enterprise providing care, support, training, and meaningful work opportunities for over 65 adults with learning disabilities. With a dedicated team of over 100 staff, the organisation is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where both employees and service users can thrive.

The Wellbeing Challenge

Supporting employee wellbeing was a growing priority for Antur Waunfawr, particularly as the demands of the care sector continued to increase. The organisation recognised the need to equip managers with the tools to support staff effectively while building a culture that promoted openness, resilience, and mental health awareness across the whole team.

What We Did

To strengthen their approach, Antur Waunfawr partnered with RCS for expert training and support. Staff participated in Mental Health Awareness and Wellbeing Champions training, which enhanced understanding of mental health and how to support colleagues effectively.

RCS also helped the organisation establish Wellbeing Champions within the HR department, providing a clear point of contact for staff needing guidance or signposting to further resources. Managers received additional training through RCS programmes like Supervision and Performance, helping them lead with empathy and confidence. Managers are now actively encouraged to continue this training to sustain a supportive work environment.

The Impact

The wellbeing initiatives, supported by RCS, have had a measurable impact. Antur Waunfawr has maintained an exceptionally low staff turnover rate of just 5%—significantly below the 30% average in the care sector. This high retention has contributed to a more stable, engaged, and productive workforce.

RCS’s input has strengthened the organisation’s day-to-day practices, creating clearer pathways for staff support and contributing to a more resilient and positive workplace overall. Ensuring staff feel appreciated and empowered to raise concerns has helped us create an open, transparent culture where people feel truly supported.
