Promoting Wellbeing in the Workplace
Mudiad Meithrin nurtures a rich landscape of Welsh-medium play and learning experiences for children from birth to school-age.
As a voluntary organisation passionate about celebrating and encouraging the use of the Welsh language, they have grown considerably over the years and continue to positively influence the lives of children in Wales.
The Wellbeing Challenge
In 2021, Mudiad Meithrin appointed RCS to help them develop a robust, over-arching wellbeing framework to support, drive and embed wellbeing across the company’s operations, building on their existing strengths and the positive gains made during the pandemic.
What We Did
We guided key internal stakeholders at Mudiad Meithrin through a comprehensive self-assessment of their wellbeing provision against a set of recommended standards and indicators. This enabled us to identify strengths, gaps and opportunities, which in turn helped us to shape a prioritised action plan and a tailored overarching wellbeing framework. We involved staff at all levels in the organisation through focus groups and surveys, all conducted in Welsh.
Using our feedback, the company put in place a structured training programme for staff, including Wellbeing Champions and Mental Health First Aid.
The Impact
The structured approach has meant that wellbeing support is now fully embedded and recognised within the organisational culture at Mudiad Meithrin.
It was very easy to work with RCS. They took time to understand and learn how the organisation works, and to understand where we wanted to go in developing our health and wellbeing strategy. They spoke to staff, and saw from that what we were doing well – and celebrated these achievements – which put us in a strong position to be able to develop further.
As a result of the work RCS has done with us, we hope through grant funding to be able to appoint a part-time member of staff to drive the health and wellbeing strategy forward. We’ve also provided more courses for our staff to support them in terms of things like understanding the menopause, being a listening ear to colleagues and how we can all be champions of wellbeing within the organisation.
