Sustainable Steps Green Careers

RCS is thrilled to have received a funding award for an exciting new project in North Wales to support young people with disabilities/additional needs as well as young people from ethnic minority communities into ‘green’ careers.  The £3,108,371 award is made through the Dormant Assets fund, which is being delivered by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The 5-year project is focussed on helping young people aged 16-30 from our priority groups to:

  • Develop confidence
  • Learn new skills
  • Get work experience and placements which could lead to longer-term opportunities.

We are leading a dynamic local consortium of partner organisations and employers to:

  • Create training and work opportunities in a broad range of sectors
  • Deliver specialist support to young people
  • Raise awareness of different green careers
  • Help businesses create more diverse, inclusive workplaces

Green careers can include any jobs that help to reduce carbon emissions, restore nature and help us adapt to our changing climate. Examples could include a cook at a zero-waste café, a trainee engineer for a renewable energy company or a conservation officer on a nature reserve.

We plan to get the project underway by July 2025. In the meantime, if you or any young people you know are interested in finding out more, or if you can offer us any paid or unpaid work opportunities, get in touch using our enquiry form and we will get back to you when we have more details.
