Promoting Wellbeing in the Workplace
Mentera is Wales’ leading independent business development company, supporting both new and established businesses to grow, innovate, and succeed. The organisation is also committed to creating a positive internal culture that supports its employees as they help others thrive.
The Wellbeing Challenge
Before engaging with RCS, Mentera’s approach to staff wellbeing was informal and inconsistent. Although Wellbeing Champions had been appointed, they had received little training, and many staff were unclear about the role they played. Some employees were facing health challenges but didn’t know how to access support or manage their conditions, while HR lacked the resources and awareness to signpost effectively.
Mentera recognised that a more structured, proactive approach was needed—and turned to RCS for help in shaping a strategy that worked for everyone.
What We Did
Working closely with RCS, Mentera began with a series of meetings and focus groups to assess staff needs and current gaps in provision. RCS then delivered tailored training, including Menopause Awareness, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Support, Sleep Workshops, Wellbeing Champions, Staff Focus Groups, and Supervision & Performance.
As a result, Mentera’s Wellbeing Champions became more confident in their roles, and awareness of their purpose increased across the organisation. Line managers also received support and training, enabling them to signpost staff more effectively and create a more responsive, supportive culture.
The Impact
The changes have had a measurable and meaningful effect. Mentera now has a clearer understanding of staff wellbeing needs and has introduced targeted talks and events in response. Staff now have better access to support, line managers are more confident in signposting wellbeing services
Mentera has already seen a 14% increase in staff who feel their wellbeing is being supported. A recent staff survey also showed that 85% rated their health as good or very good, and an 85% increase in staff who knew who to contact for health or wellbeing concerns.
It’s great to see these improvements. We know there’s more work to be done, but we’ve made a good start thanks to RCS’ guidance and support
