RCS is seeking progressive, socially responsible employers who want to create work opportunities for young unemployed people through the Kickstart Scheme.
KICKSTART is a £2bn job creation scheme established by the UK government to help young people, who face particular disadvantage in the current labour market.
The scheme is funding employers to create 6-month job placements for young people who are at risk of long-term unemployment. The job placements should help participants develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the scheme.
WHO CAN APPLY?
We can accept applications from UK businesses that are registered with Companies House or the Charities Commission. If you are a sole trader, you can apply through the Federation for Small Businesses (FSB) and Adecco.
WHAT TYPE OF JOBS DO THEY HAVE TO BE?
The roles can be in any sector. They must be new jobs that do not replace existing or planned vacancies, or cause existing employees to lose their employment. They must offer a minimum of 25 hours per week, for 6 months.
WHAT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE?
The scheme pays employers 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, along with associated on-costs. You can also access £1500 per job placement towards your setup costs, support and training.
WHAT SUPPORT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
You will need to support participants to develop their skills and experience. You will also need to help them with looking for long-term work, with CV and interview preparation, and with training to develop their skills, such as team work, organisation and communications. We can provide this support through our rolling programme of on-line training workshops. The Kickstart scheme provides funding for you to buy in this support if needed.
IF YOU’RE CREATING FEWER THAN 30 JOB PLACEMENTS
Applications to DWP must be for a minimum of 30 jobs. If you want to create fewer than 30 jobs, RCS can apply for funding on your behalf, as a registered Kickstart gateway. We are an experienced provider of job creation schemes – in 2009, we worked with thirty employers to create over 300 new jobs for unemployed young people in North Wales through DWP’s Future Jobs Fund.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Once our application is accepted, we will contact you for full details of your vacancies. These will be forwarded to your local Job Centre, where a Work Coach will select a number of suitable work-ready candidates. You will be able to interview the candidates and select the best candidate for the role.
